The requirements to enter the career switcher program are:
1) Five years of work experience
2) Interest in teaching in an area of critical need: math, science etc...
3) Passing the Praxis II in the content area of interest
4) Passing the VCLA test (Virginia Communication and Literacy Assessement)
5) Review of transcripts to determine if classwork has been taken in content area
Of course, I pass item number 1 having worked in industry for a total of 23 years plus my four years of teaching experience in mechanical engineering at Virginia Tech. I'm interested in teaching math and physics initially with a possibility of teaching chemistry in the future. I have had my transcripts reviewed. I'll talk about the Praxis and VCLA tests in the next post.
